RISE was awarded the Tsinghua University Social Practice Gold Prize for our August volunteering trip to Pingyao, Shanxi. This award is given to fewer than 30 of the over 700 Tsinghua University teams that participate in summer volunteering trips throughout China and internationally. Our August trip fits into our Shanxi project. As part of the trip, we built over 40 filters in households currently using groundwater with high arsenic levels. This type of filter was tested over 4 months to ensure it removed arsenic to below the national standard.
